Rutan Aircraft
1972 RAF- Rutan Aircraft Factory- VariViggen The VariViggen was Rutan’s first full-scale aircraft design. It was named for the Swedish fighter SAAB 337 Viggen that partially inspired the two-place wood and fiberglass delta-wing pusher. Its canard became a trademark of Rutan’s designs. He sold some 600 sets of plans but “it was difficult to build compared to the VariEze,” his subsequent design, Rutan says. The prototype hangs in the EAA AirVenture Museum near the mockup of the Voyager cabin.
