He belonged to the Air Force Association, EAA, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Air and Space Smithsonian and was a Charter Sponsor of the Air Force Memorial in Washington, D. C. His other hobbies were bird watching, photography, and golf. His wife, Elayne, precedes him in death. Alfred is survived by his five children, Darryl, Al (Mary Jo), Lorin (Angela), Greg (Corrine), and Daria Barnes (Mark), four grandchildren, Matt, Zach, Kristen, and Rachel, and one great-grandchild, Jaxon. Al will be truly missed and my thoughts and prayers goes out to his family. Al went above (No pun intended) everything he did and love doing Young Eagles and as stated anything that had to do with flying! He was truly a wonderful friend!

Al was a great inspiration at our Airport (2D1) his great attitude and love of flying really showed. Looking back on his time with us here at EAA #82 he sure kept things going with the Young Eagles. It is only now that we can haul the older members too! We used to call them the ",Old Buzzards",. All were usually worn out after a big day here at the airport and sort of drifted off to home. Al's wish was to have a hangar and apartment at an airport. He has better than that now, he has all ratings , numerous aircraft to fly and the fuel &, insurance are FREE. I am sure I saw Al's beautiful hair way up there in the sky just a moment ago. We will have a special ",GONE WEST", memorial for Al here at the Barber Airport later in the year. Farewell Old Friend , you are missed. bye from Forrest, Patty &, Sam
