Introducing EAA Aviation Experience 2011
We're coming to Van Nuys Airport April 15-17 with a new kind of aviation event
EAA Aviation Experience is a different kind of event. There is a lot to see, but it's not just about watching. It's all about flying. Participating. Working together and having important conversation about the future of aviation.
Bring the family. Bring a friend.
Are you a pilot? An aviation enthusiast? Have a friend who's "always wanted to fly"? Maybe you know a young person who'd like to take a Young Eagles flight. Bring 'em along. EAA Aviation Experience 2011 is the event for all. You don't have to be an EAA member, but you'll meet a lot of friendly folks who are.
Young Eagles fly free
Since 1992, EAA member pilots have flown more than 1.6 million people, ages 8-17, on Young Eagles flights. Our goal is to introduce kids to the world of aviation with introductory flights lasting about 15-20 minutes. For many Young Eagles, it's an inspiration that lasts a lifetime. Recent statistics show that Young Eagles are five times more likely to become pilots. Our Young Eagles program is inspiring a new generation of aviators.
If you've got kids in your family who want to fly, bring them to EAA Aviation Experience 2011. Flights are available on a first-come, first-served basis and there's no cost to you.
Meet Captain Sullenberger
Stop by and say hello to the heroic "Miracle on the Hudson" pilot and Young Eagles Co-Chairman Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger on Saturday, April 16. From 6 to 7 p.m., Sully will sign his New York Times bestseller Highest Duty, which will be available for purchase.
Rod Hightower's Grassroots Pilot Tour
You're invited to join our new EAA President/CEO Rod Hightower and local California EAA Chapters for a fun, informative evening on Saturday, April 16. We’ll have a casual social hour starting at 6 p.m. Rod will present his Grassroots Pilot Tour program at 7 p.m. We'll be talking about the leading aviation issues of our time, and what EAA is doing to grow participation in aviation. Admission is free. You don't have to be an EAA member to attend. Friends & family also welcome!
To assist us with planning for the evening event, we encourage you to RSVP at www.eaa.org/grassroots.
Experience the B-17
Here's your chance to join us for an unforgettable experience aboard our beautifully-restored B-17, Aluminum Overcast. It's one of only a dozen or so still flying out of over 12,000 built during World War 2. You can choose a ground walk-thru tour or a flight experience.
Fly With Us
Plan on a B-17 flight experience lasting about 40 minutes total time, including flight time of approximately 24 minutes. As your flight crew throttles up for takeoff, you'll hear – and feel – the power of four Wright Cyclone GR-1820-97 1,200 HP radial engines. There's no other sound like it. Reaching cruise flight, you’re free to move around to the combat crew positions, including: navigator, waist gunners, and bombardier (notice the famous Norden bombsight).
