Transport Canada Opts Out of AirVenture

We’ve just been informed that due to budget considerations, Transport Canada will not be attending EAA AirVenture Oshkosh this year. This is a keen disappointment to Canadian aviation buffs, who will miss the TC folks in the Federal Pavilion. The presence of Transport Canada officials at AirVenture allowed Canadians to catch up on aviation rules that affect our flying, aircraft building, and other related subjects.

In another notice, we learned the folks that brought us the Electronic Advance Passenger Information System (eAPIS) requirements for border-crossing flights also won’t be attending AirVenture 2011.

In previous years, the EAA staff, together with the EAA Canadian Council, have programmed meetings between these two important players, which proved vital in the discussion of crossing borders without unnecessary hassle. During these meetings we were able to discuss border-crossing ramifications and explore means and methods to ease the burden on pilots while preserving border security.

You can help! We ask you to contact Martin J. Eley, Director General, Civil Aviation, to urge him to reconsider this decision. His contact information is:
