Bits and Pieces
From the Archives: A Plea From the President
By Ian Brown, Editor - Bits and Pieces, EAA 657159
There are both similarities and contrasts between our present issue of Bits and Pieces and this abstract from the December 1962 EAA Sport Aviation. EAA Founder and then-president Paul Poberezny notes in that issue's Homebuilder's Corner column the problem in getting contributions, writing "...the number of pages presented every month depends on the amount of funds available." In contrast, since our Canadian contributors submit their articles to the editor gratis, there is no such concern here.
It also means that we are free of publicity in our content. It does, however, make the obvious comment that our survival depends on willing freelance authors, with emphasis on the "free" part. Content written solely by your editor would rapidly run dry of interesting topical information.
As a similarity with our U.S.-based membership, Paul also commented 50 years ago that membership fees are the main source of support of Sport Aviation. That is also true of Bits and Pieces. Once the Canadian content is assembled and submitted, the headquarters copy editing and formatting for electronic publication swings into gear. The cost of that is born by your membership contributions, so if you are not already an EAA member, please consider joining us, and invite your friends, too. As well as the Sport Aviation magazine every month, you will receive priceless benefits like reduced admission to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, Sun 'n Fun International Fly-In & Expo, and full online access to the "members only" section of EAA.org-including access to back issues of Sport Aviation all the way back to issue number one.
