AIR SHOW: A PREVIEW
|
| An
amazing weekend! Almost before we had planned, we found
ourselves in the Vintage Wings hangar with all their
pristine polished aircraft, mostly vintage 1940s. This
July 4th occasion was the summer's opening air show by
Vintage Wings of Canada. The occasion was also special
since the Canadian Snowbirds would entertain the crowd
in their first Gatineau appearance. Read

| This
past Canada Day, as many Canadians do, some members of
one particular Canadian family gathered in Ottawa to
have some fun and get their photograph taken as a
memento of the day. The Hadfields, of Milton, Ontario,
are in most respects like any other Canadian family out
for a flag-waving afternoon of fun. But that's where the

TO OSHKOSH

Mark Essenburg, EAA 717379, is almost to Oshkosh. The
last time he was here with an airplane was in 1979.
Follow his progress and his experiences during the week
at his blog site.
"By 3pm on
Saturday, I plan to be tied down at Vintage Aircraft
Camping, Whitman Regional Airport, Oshkosh, Wisconsin!
The weather looks like it might even be cooperative. The
threat of rain is less, and now it looks like a nice gap
between two systems is going to give us a clear shot at
KOSH."

| BITS
AND PIECES NAMESAKE TO ATTEND AIRVENTURE
|
| If
you look up at the masthead of this newsletter, you will
see an aircraft to the right of the Bits and Pieces
title. This Corben Baby Ace is the aircraft for which
this very newsletter is named. Tom Diectrich and Bob
Revell operate The Tigerboys Aeroplane Works &
Flying Museum at Guelph Airpark in Guelph, Ontario. The
boys are in a celebratory mood as Tom is marking his
40th Oshkosh. Tom was at the first Oshkosh-based
convention in 1970, and Tom and Bob felt it was only
appropriate to bring Canada's oldest flying registered
homebuilt to EAA to celebrate Tom's milestone.
Pilot Brian Harrington
will leave Guelph on Monday, July 26, and the aircraft
should arrive after the daily air show on Tuesday, July

| VINTAGE
WINGS OF CANADA MUSEUM WEBINAR! |
| Rob
Fleck, chief operating officer and pilot for Vintage
Wings Canada, will review the operations, aircraft, and
future plans of a unique flying museum recently
established in Gatineau, Quebec. Housed in a newly
constructed 23,000-square-foot hangar, the museum has
already amassed an impressive collection of rare
warbirds and vintage aircraft, and has several major
restorations underway, including a Spitfire, Hurricane,
and Swordfish. Rob will also share details of the
forthcoming "Wings over Gatineau," which will
incorporate a national Canadian EAA fly-in.

It
was the Same in Canada
Sport Aviation, March 1964
Ask any old-timer about
sport flying today, and he will be happy to point out
how much better off we are now than they were in the
earlier days of homebuilding, not only with regulations,
but in such areas as aircraft, engines, and propellers.
Cecil H. Goddard, EAA 16663, of Alida, Saskatchewan, not
far from the North Dakota border, has had long
experience in this game. He had built several aircraft
at a young age, using Indian and Harley-Davidson
motorcycle engines. Cecil tried to teach himself to fly
in another airplane he built, which was powered with a
Model T Ford engine. It took off, but the Wright
brothers' flight was just about as long, and they didn't
end up in a heap. Read
