| FLY-IN
SEASON IS UPON US! |
I
can almost hear the sighs of relief as winter's grip
loosens a bit. It has been quite a season for nasty
weather, but very soon we can start looking forward to
the fly-in season. The following items can help you
organize and promote your chapter's events this year.
PROMOTIONAL
MATERIALS
If your chapter is planning an event, you can
order banners and prop cards directly from the chapter
office. Read more
ONLINE INSURANCE
FORM READY AND WAITING
Last year, we launched our online insurance
request form to make the process easier for you to
file your event notices. We do have two requests,
however. First, please submit your event at least 30
days in advance. Second, we have phased out the paper
forms and are no longer processing paper requests. The
online form is available here: www.EAA.org/apps/insurance/.
CALENDAR OF EVENTS
EAA's Aviation Calendar of Events continues to
rank as one of the most visited pages on the EAA
website. Don't let this resource go to waste. People
can't find you if they don't know what you're up to! www.EAA.org/calendar.

| FEATURED
NEWSLETTERS |
|
This month, we feature the
newsletters from EAA
Chapter 186 (Manassas, Va.) and EAA
Chapter 790 (Lake in the Hills, Ill.). EAA Chapter 186
has many irons in the fire, and their newsletter provides
a glimpse into the "state of the chapter." From
EAA Chapter 790 comes an interesting story about an
encounter with Young Eagles Cochairman Jeff Skiles. Enjoy!

"CHECK OUT OUR
WEBSITE" - EAA CHAPTER 992 |
|
I opened my in-box the other
day to find that message from EAA
Chapter 992 (Marshfield, Wis.), so I clicked on the
link. The chapter's new site has a clean design and
provides an overview of the chapter's activities and
what's ahead for this year. Pay special attention to
the events tab as they have used the EAA Calendar widget
to display the chapter's events and other events in the
area. I know we've written about how the widget works in
the past, but here's an example of how it looks in action.
Plus you can look through some fun photos from Chapter
992's history. Webmaster Chris Owens reports he primarily
used Adobe Web Design Suite CS4 (Dreamweaver and
Fireworks) with a couple of add-on components to help make
the photo galleries a bit more manageable. For more on the
widget, click
here.

COMING ATTRACTION - CHAPTER
MEETING ON A DVD
|
|
The final touches are being
made to the 2010 Chapter Meeting DVD. The purpose of the
DVD is to provide additional content for upcoming chapter
meetings. This edition will feature a behind-the-ropes
tour of the Founders' Wing with EAA Founder Paul
Poberezny; a look ahead to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2010 and
International Learn to Fly Day; and a new segment, Ask The
AME (aviation medical examiner), with Dr. Greg Pinell of
the EAA Aeromedical Advisory Council. The DVD will be
mailed to all chapter presidents in the next few weeks.
We'll send out a reminder when we have a firm mailing
date.

RUST REMOVAL SEMINAR
|
|
With credit to our friends at
the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association, here's a
program idea for an upcoming meeting. Since most of us
spend more time on the ground than we would like during
the winter, why not invite a local instructor to talk
about how to get back in flying shape? Discussions might
include how to sharpen your skills rather than just boring
holes in the sky, how to plan a long cross country to a
major fly-in, or creating a personal
minimums checklist. Ask an A&P for tips on getting
your airplane ready for the season, or contact the weather
service for expertise on weather patterns and how they
influence flying in your region.
