By Trevor Janz, EAA 656941

Just recently, Jeff Skiles (vice president of Chapters), Brian O'Lena (manager of Young Eagles), and I flew down to Charlotte, North Carolina, for a Grassroots Pilot Tour stop hosted by EAA Chapter 309. We arranged space at the Carolinas Aviation Museum, which houses the US Airways Flight 1549 "Miracle on the Hudson" aircraft. It was a fitting venue for First Officer Jeff Skiles to address the more than 210 people in attendance. Read more >>

Chapter Renewals: Deadline Expired
The EAA Chapter Office has received a large number of filled-out chapter renewal packets. However, there are still a fair number of chapters that have not yet submitted the required information, which was due on January 15. This information is required in order to keep your chapter in active status with current insurance to conduct activities and events.

Each chapter's 2012 president received the original chapter renewal packet for completion. Utilizing the preprinted forms helps us update your chapter record accurately and efficiently. However, if your chapter is unable to locate the original forms, you can print them online or obtain them by contacting the EAA Chapter Office at chapters@eaa.org. If your chapter has not yet submitted your information, please do so as soon as possible.

Grill Winter Projects Bring Tasty Results
The fly-in pancake breakfast is a long-standing chapter tradition that's evolved into a culinary work of art in many hangars. While the winter weather brings many of us inside to "hangar fly," it's also the perfect time for your chapter to build a rotating pancake griddle or barrel grill for your upcoming spring events!

Chapter Spotlight
A Q&A session with chapter presidents, leaders, and members.
Chapter 1246 EAA Chapter 1246 (McKinney, Texas)
This month we talked to T' Marbach, newly elected president of EAA Chapter 1246 in McKinney, Texas, to learn more about the self-described "friendliest EAA chapter in Texas!"

How did you get involved with Chapter 1246?
I attended my first chapter meeting in 2011 at the request of my flight instructor. I knew of other chapters that didn't want to talk to you if you weren't working on a project; but the members of 1246 were very welcoming, so I kept coming back! The chapter helped me through the flight training process, always there to answer my questions. I eventually earned my pilot certificate in May 2012.

Who makes up your membership?
We have close to 300 members and about 44 nonmembers who receive our chapter e-mails about upcoming programs and events. We're open to anyone with an interest in aviation, whether you're building, flying, or just an enthusiast. There's one guy who's not building or learning to fly because he's helping his wife get through nursing school. But he just loves being around aviation and airplanes.

Volunteering The Benefits of Volunteering
Submitted by Kirk Fjetland, president of EAA Chapter 237

One of the best ways to make new aviation friends and strengthen existing relationships is to commit to a shared activity together. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, especially if you are new to an area. This involvement can strengthen your ties to the community and broaden your support network, exposing you to people with common interests, neighborhood resources, and fun and fulfilling activities.
