Trevor Janz New Chapters Forming and EAA Is Growing
By Trevor Janz, EAA 656941

I've been receiving calls recently from EAA members who want to start a chapter in their area. It is always exciting to talk with these members who are so passionate about EAA and aviation. Talking with them energizes me. They are excited and look forward to starting a chapter and growing aviation in their communities. Read more >>

Chapter 1240 Chapter 1240's New Aviation Center
By John Rousch, VP - EAA Chapter 1240, EAA 647770

It was one of those late sunny mornings in Sebring, Florida. We had just finished another round of painting in our new EAA Chapter 1240 Aviation Development Center. Abby, a sister of one of my high school aerospace students, came over to me and Phil Lockwood, owner of Lockwood Aviation, to ask for help on her middle school science report. She wanted to know how to explain "lift." Read more >>

Greeter So You Want to Be a Flightline Greeter?
By Paul D. Fiebich, EAA 577724, Flightline Greeter Chairman - EAA Chapter 88

One of the neat things about attending a fly-in in your own plane is that someone on the ground at your destination welcomes your presence. Fly-ins exist because people bring their planes for display, then others drive to the airport to enjoy seeing them. Planes are the draw at such an event in a manner similar to cars at a car show. Chapter Leader Recognition 2013
This year we're getting a head start on Chapter Leader Recognition certificates and pins. In past years, we mailed them out in December and after several chapters already have had their holiday banquets. We are working to print and produce the pins and have them shipped by late October/early November. Hopefully, this way you can present the certificates and pins at your annual holiday gatherings.

Renewal Packets Also Arriving Sooner This Year
Along with the certificate and pin shipments, we'll include your chapter renewal packets, so when they arrive, open immediately and complete and submit the packets to EAA headquarters.

Chapter Insurance Renewal
Since we are mailing the chapter renewal paperwork earlier this year for 2014, we need to wait for the new chapter insurance premium for 2014. EAA Risk Management will be sending insurance renewals separately.

EAA Eagle Flights (Adults 18-plus)
I want to thank all the chapters that are supporting the Eagle Flights program. More than 1,300 adults with an interest in aviation have received an introductory flight from EAA members.

A few reminders: We receive many calls asking if the Eagle Flight participant should be taking flying lessons right after the Eagle Flight. The answer is not necessarily. Some people have done so, and that's great; but with most Eagle Flight recipients, learning to fly is a timing issue. We highly recommend having participants join your chapter and get involved. The chapter will encourage their passion for aviation, and eventually, when the timing is right, they will start lessons. In any case, you will have an active chapter member. Just remember, we were all once enthusiasts.

Please do not use the Eagle Flight forms for any Young Eagle Flights. The Eagle Flight form is a double-sided form and cannot be sent via e-mail at this time. If you make a copy of the registration form, it must be double-sided and not stapled. We have had to send many of these submissions back to the pilot. And don't forget to make sure you and the participant sign the form before submitting.

As we move into 2014, we will ask chapters to designate an Eagle Flights coordinator. (This will be in your renewal packet.) The chapter Eagle Flights coordinator can then work with member pilots to volunteer to become Eagle Flight mentors.
