Sporty’s Among More Than 100 International Learn to Fly Day Events Planned to Date
April 22, 2011 – More than 100 events are now listed on the International Learn to Fly Day website, including the big festivities planned at Sporty’s Pilot Shop in Ohio on Saturday, May 21.
Sporty’s Pilot Shop, located at Clermont County Airport (I69) in Batavia, Ohio, will host its second International Learn to Fly Day event in conjunction with the annual Sporty’s Open House & Fly-In. Last year’s event drew about 2,000 people and 300 to 400 aircraft.
This year, the open house is 10 a.m.-3 p.m., rain or shine, and will feature a Learn to Fly Center where attendees will be able to speak to flight instructors about learning to fly. Introductory flights will also be available on the spot along with a free learning to fly seminar.
The day’s other scheduled events include:
- FAA safety seminars hosted by Garmin, Bendix/King, Aspen Avionics, Air Mod, and more
- Free hot dogs served at noon
- Four flight simulators
- Cessna aircraft on display
- Airport tour featuring Sandy’s Airpark
- More than 30 exhibits
Has your chapter planned your International Learn to Fly Day event yet? Time is running out, but there’s still an opportunity to plan an event that will engage adults in your community who have always wanted to discover flight.
Offering introductory flights to adults during International Learn to Fly Day will be a key step toward establishing a year-round adult version of EAA’s popular Young Eagles program, which has offered free flights to more than 1.6 million young people since 1992.
This year’s event gives chapters an opportunity to help EAA trial the concept of a program similar to Young Eagles for adults. Your experience and feedback will help us in creating such a program.
