February 21, 2012 - At EAA AirVenture 2012, we will begin celebrating the 20th year of the Young Eagles program. We are developing many enhancements to the Young Eagles experience for 2012 and beyond that I am certain you will find as exciting as I do. But, what I am most energized about is the appointment of Brian O'Lena to the role of manager of Young Eagles and Youth Pathways.
Brian has been overseeing the EAA Flight Plan for several years, which currently encompasses the Sporty's Pilot Shop "Next Step" ground school, EAA Youth Membership, First Flight Lesson, and flight training scholarships program. With the assistance of Program Coordinator Michelle Kunes, Brian will also assume the responsibility for the Young Eagles program, making him the face of youth education at EAA.
I have long been impressed by the excitement that Brian brings to his work with young adults and I am confident that you will find Brian to be an inspiring leader for our Young Eagles program. Brian is a current Young Eagles pilot and will be checked out to fly Young Eagles off the grass at Pioneer Airport this spring. He is also a current CFI with extensive experience as a professional pilot and as an airline flight training specialist.
You will see Brian at Young Eagles chapter events this year, participating and engaging with chapter volunteers and Young Eagles. Until we fill the position of manager of Chapters and Eagle Flights, Brian will also be actively involved in assisting in the development the Eagle Flights program.
