Excited to Work With You to Grow Aviation ... and Your Chapter

EAA Manager of Chapters and Eagle Flights
May 1, 2012 - I am very excited to begin my new role here at EAA headquarters as manager of chapters and Eagle Flights. As with any new position, I have much to learn about our nearly 1,000 chapters and how they work and operate.
Chapters are about people. Many times I have heard Paul Poberezny say, "It's not the airplanes, it's the people." This is certainly as true when we gather together at the chapter level as it is at the national level at AirVenture. We join together to share our passion for everything aviation.
When I was growing up, both my father and my uncle were flight instructors. I was fortunate to be able to grow up around the local FBO. Any time we were not flying, we were definitely hangar flying. The local FBO was the gathering place for all pilots, soon-to-be-pilots, and enthusiasts of everything aviation. I see our chapters being the same. EAA chapters provide a place for us to not only stay active in aviation, but also to share our passion for aviation with others of like interest.
To that end, I would like to challenge each chapter to invite a few new people to your next meeting. Invite a friend or another family member. If you are building an aircraft, invite some students from a local high school shop class or local technical college to get some hands-on experience.
As we look forward, please keep in mind that growth for your chapter membership means a stronger EAA and a stronger aviation industry. If there is anything we can do to help you, even if it is just to share some ideas to help you grow your chapter, please contact me directly at 920-426-5914 or by e-mail at email@example.com. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you.
Many of you have worked with Brenda Anderson at EAA headquarters over the past 12 years that she has been chapter coordinator. I will have the privilege of working with her and I want to thank her in advance for having patience with me as I learn my new responsibilities. Brenda is a wealth of knowledge and I am so glad that she is on the EAA chapter team. We are here for you and your chapter.
Together we can grow participation in aviation.
