Valuable Feedback Makes This My Best AirVenture
By Trevor Janz, EAA 656941
EAA Manager of Chapters and Eagle Flights
August 7, 2012 - EAA AirVenture 2012, by far, was one of the best conventions that I have ever had. It was fantastic to get to meet so many EAA chapter members and leaders during the week, and to be able to hear your suggestions and feedback was extremely valuable.
Many of our chapter leaders and members volunteered this year. For most, it was not the first year of volunteering. Without your help, this event would not take place. Thank you very much for all your time and support of your convention. Our chapter members have such an amazing can-do attitude that is infectious and continues to truly be "The Spirit of Aviation" and the spirit of EAA.
Some of the feedback we received was for EAA headquarters to provide better communication with our chapter leaders and members. Currently, we rely on this bi-monthly e-newsletter, ChapterGram, and direct e-mail. With the new Eagle Flights program, there will be a need to send information to the chapter leaders and your Eagle Flights coordinator. One suggestion was to have a separate template, so the e-mail is easily identifiable. Since we will not be using "snail mail" to save on expenses, we would appreciate your suggestions. Please provide any feedback to me at email@example.com on how best we can work together to make sure we are keeping you informed.
At the Chapter Leaders Breakfast on July 28, we mentioned that Jeff Skiles and I will begin traveling and meeting with chapters. So far on the schedule:
- August 27 in Minneapolis, Minnesota
- August 28 in Duluth, Minnesota/Superior, Wisconsin
- October 9 in Kansas City, Missouri
- October 10 in Omaha, Nebraska
- October 11 in Des Moines, Iowa
- October 30 in Indianapolis, Indiana
- October 31 in Muncie, Indiana
While in Muncie, we will be meeting with the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). As many of you know, we have a Memorandum of Understanding with the AMA. AMA has chapters in many of the same locations as EAA chapters and provides an excellent way to recruit younger members to your chapter. During AirVenture, I met with Lynne Wainfan from Chapter 96. Please visit the chapter's website for an amazing video of their modeling event for kids.
Please mark your calendars for October 26-28 for the EAA Chapter Leaders Academy here in Oshkosh. For more information and to sign up, please visit the Chapter Leaders Academy website.
Keep in touch and please e-mail me any photos of your recent event so we can share with other chapters. We are working on providing a venue for chapters to share ideas via our online forums and will keep you posted.
Thank you again for all you do out there in the field to promote EAA and all things aviation.
