Would You Like to Win an iPad? I Know I Would!
September 18, 2012 - One of the most common challenges that chapters routinely face is coming up with new ways to raise funds. While many chapters have found success in pancake breakfasts, they are also looking for new ideas that can generate some money for the chapter's coffers.
Checking out the EAA forums highlighted a new variation on a traditional fundraising concept of raffles. In years gone by, it was not uncommon for chapters to raffle off varying items in order to raise money for their chapter. EAA Chapter 1536 in Middletown, Delaware, is keeping the concept going but with a current twist in the items selected as the prizes. The chapter is raffling off a new Apple iPad as well as a $100 Apple iTunes gift card. What great ideas!
When organizing a raffle for your chapter, it is important to think of an item that has broad appeal. While a new headset may be appealing to pilots or potential new pilots, it does not relate as well to those not particularly interested in aviation. This immediately reduces your chapter's potential sale of raffle tickets by having an item that does not have a large interest to the general public.
So if your chapter is thinking about organizing a raffle try to come up with a prize that would be of interest to the aviation community as well as your neighbors, co-workers, and friends. Also, take a few minutes to review the raffle guide and learn about regulations, committee discussion points, prize ideas, ticket prices, advertising, and drawing the prizewinner.
