Are You the 25%?

We are finally emerging from our deep freeze and seeing the first few signs of spring here in Oshkosh. In addition to spotting a robin outside or seeing the tulips bloom, another sure sign of spring is the increased number of online chapter insurance requests pouring in - flying season is here!
After launching a new system for chapters to submit insurance requests online in July 2009, we have received, reviewed, and approved more than 8,000 event requests. That translates to a staggering number of pancake breakfasts, Young Eagle Flights, and fly-ins. It also represents more than 8,000 opportunities chapters took to grow participation in aviation by sharing their passion for flying with others.
After reviewing the data submitted online, however, it's worth noting that roughly 25 percent of chapters have not submitted an insurance request for one year or more. I don't want to assume that these 25 percent are idle chapters; I have spoken to enough members to know that chapters are a dynamic and enthusiastic bunch! So I am taking this as an opportunity to remind you to submit an insurance request for your chapter's upcoming events.
One of the many ways EAA helps protect our local chapters from risk is through the online request for insurance. With this system in place, HQ has a record of the event, and once approved, the chapter has peace of mind knowing its event is covered. It's a crucial step in the event planning process, and a relatively simple one as well.
