New Chapters Forming and EAA Is Growing
By Trevor Janz, EAA 656941
EAA Manager of Chapters and Eagle Flights
I've been receiving calls recently from EAA members who want to start a chapter in their area. It is always exciting to talk with these members who are so passionate about EAA and aviation. Talking with them energizes me. They are excited and look forward to starting a chapter and growing aviation in their communities.
There also has been interest in other countries, such as Australia, India, Malaysia, and many more. I met with some EAA members from India during this year's EAA AirVenture Oshkosh who want to promote general aviation in their country. This is very exciting, and we continue to grow our amazing chapter network - not only nationwide, but worldwide!
The monthly Chapter Video Magazine continues to grow in popularity as more and more chapters show it to their members each month. Chapters are quickly discovering that these videos are not simply "propaganda" from the "mother ship," but they have valuable and entertaining information.
Currently this downloadable video is sent to all chapter leaders. Some chapters have contacted us asking if the video could be sent to someone in the chapter who may be more "computer savvy" if the current designee is challenged in that area. Sure we can - simply e-mail me with the chapter member name and e-mail address. If for some reason you are not receiving the video, please let me know and I will make sure you are on the distribution list.
Many EAA chapters are among the 1.2 billion (!) active Facebook users. I have joined (liked) most of you with Facebook pages, and I am overjoyed to be involved with all of you as you share information, photos, and videos. Facebook is also an excellent tool to help promote your chapter and grow your membership. Hal Bryan, EAA online community manager, informed me that after the major search engines (Google, Bing, etc.), Facebook is the number one traffic source to EAA.org. Your chapter should be utilizing this powerful social media network. You can see what other chapters are doing by simply logging into your Facebook account and typing in "EAA chapter" in the search area.
Speaking of social media, many chapters are also using YouTube and other services to post videos of Young Eagles rallies and other events, linked to their chapter website and Facebook page. Today we have so many ways to communicate with our membership and recruit new members at no hard cost to the chapter (other than the time to do it).
Each month we will share more ideas of what EAA chapters are doing in the "Chapters in Action" section of ChapterGram. Please submit what your chapter is doing and we will share it with others.
Please forward this to all your chapter members and have them subscribe to ChapterGram.
