Promote Your Chapter with Free Business Cards
By Charlie Becker, EAA Chapter 252 Treasurer/EAA Staff
I was reading Kim Komando’s (www.komando.com) tech column in the newspaper a few weeks ago where she mentioned an offer for 250 “free” business cards from VistaPrint. All you have to do is live with an ad for the printer on the back and pay for shipping. That got my attention. I’ve always wanted to have a business card for my chapter to hand out but just never got around to buying any.
I went to the VistaPrint website to place my order. You get to choose from about 46 different existing designs. All you are allowed to input is text. Since our chapter doesn’t have an address and I wanted to put the month, day and time we typically meet, I just used the address fields to put in the meeting info. You can see what you type on a mock up of the business card so it took just a bit of tweaking to get the text right. Here is the finished product:
When you check out the website will offer you all sorts of add-on deals for other stuff but you can simply decline the offers. I selected the slowest and cheapest shipping option offered. I ordered on June 10, the cards were promised by June 28 and actual delivery was on June 19. So I would recommend using the cheapest shipping option. Overall the quality of the card is good.
I was worried the ad on the back might be a problem but it’s not obtrusive.
So what did my “free” business cards cost? Shipping was $5.67 or about 2 cents apiece. Well worth it. I’ll probably use VistaPrint again when I run out of these cards even if they are not free just because the whole online process is so easy!
