EAA Chapter "Stake-Out" Service

Register now

There have been inquiries from EAA Chapters about how to best secure a group camping spot during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh.  A number of Chapters have established their own traditional camping spots, but because Camp Scholler operates on a first-come, first-served basis this can pose a challenge, especially to those Chapters not within easy driving distance.

Thus, the EAA “Stake-Out” service was established exclusively for EAA Chapters.

How does it work? Your Chapter can put in a request for camp sites and a general location where you would like to camp.  The Camp Scholler security team will then stake out your spot on the date you designate.  When you arrive, your credentials will be available at the main Camper Registration building.  It is as simple as that!

So how do we get started? First, your Chapter should decide on several issues.  One person should be designated as the Chapter point of contact.  Next, decide on how many individual camp sites you’ll need and finally, what date does the group wish to have the sites staked.  Remember, you will be paying for the sites from the stake-out date through the end of AirVenture (refunds available if you depart before closing day). Once you have those issues resolved, your Chapter’s point of contact should log on to EAA Chapter Stake-Out registration and fill in the necessary information for each camp site.  Information for each site will need to include the EAA member’s name and EAA number.  Currently, payment has to be made for each site individually using a credit card.  Only one form should be completed per Chapter to avoid confusion, so have your list ready before logging on.

When is the service available? EAA’s Camp Scholler opens for business on June 26, 2009.  The service is available from that day through Tuesday, July 23, 2009.

Are there any special rules we need to follow? Aside from the reservation process, the Chapter camping sites will follow the same rules as other campers in Camp Scholler (see below).

What are the benefits to Chapter camping? First, there is the camaraderie of sharing EAA AirVenture Oshkosh with your fellow Chapter members.  You will also enjoy the peace of mind knowing that your camp site will be ready when you arrive.  Plus, if you reserve 10 or more sites your Chapter will receive an additional site you can use as a common area.

Several of our Chapter members receive complimentary camping; can they be a part of our group? Yes, simply type in “complimentary” in the credit card number box.

How will we know where we are camping? When you arrive at Camp Scholler, your camp credentials will already be on file at Camper Registration.  Simply ask for them by your name. We will also include a map to help you find your camp spot.

Can we request specific locations? While we can’t guarantee a specific spot, we will try to put your group in an area requested. For example, if you request a general area such as “near the camp store” or “near a shower building,” we’ll try to get you as close to that area as possible. See a Camp Scholler Map to help you find a spot.

Do we all have to be members of the Chapter? This service was established to support group Chapter camping, but there is no requirement that everyone be a Chapter member. However, we do encourage it!

Camp Scholler Rules

  • 2009 rates are $21 per night. You must be an EAA Member to camp in Camp Scholler.
  • Camp Scholler is for EAA Members only for RVs and tents. There is a 3-day minimum stay. No reservations are accepted; a first come first serve basis applies. Campground will open Friday, June 26, 2009. There are always plenty of sites available at EAA's Camp Scholler.
  • Campers must pay from the arrival day of camping through the duration of the convention. You will receive a refund for the days not camped if you leave before the end of the convention. Checkout time is 12:00 NOON. Any units departing after this time will be charged an additional day of camping. To receive your refund, you must check out at one of our refund stations, and present your Camper Credentials. (The refund station is not open 24 hours. Check with the registration office for hours of operation.)
  • Only one tent or camper and one vehicle per 20’ x 30’ site are allowed. Individual campsites are approximately 20' x 30' in size and are available for both vehicle and tent camping. Larger RVs will be accommodated at the standard daily camping rates. Camping units must be a minimum of 10’ apart. Extra vehicle and visitor parking is available in our lot just south of the "West Gate". Vehicle passes for the extra parking area can be purchased at the Camper Registration Area.
  • There are no electric or water hook-ups on the campgrounds. Generators may be used for electricity, but no engine-driven generators will be operated between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m.
  • Shower facilities, 2 stores with groceries and camping supplies, campground buses that circulate throughout Camp Scholler, and a dump station (with water) on site are available.

  • In an effort to reduce the risk of emerald ash borer introduction and spread in Wisconsin, as well as other pests, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources asks that all campground firewood be left at home and purchased near your campsite location. Firewood should be obtained within 50 miles of where you plan to use it. Fines for transporting firewood across state lines are heavily enforced.

Firewood will be available for purchase at EAA AirVenture campground stores and local convenience stores in Oshkosh.

More information on Wisconsin DNR firewood rules is available at: www.dnr.wi.gov/invasives/firewood.
  • RV/Handicap Camper Area is located along the tree line of the Generator Area for those requiring 24-hour operation of auxiliary generators. Handicap restrooms are available at three campground shower facilities. There is a handicapped bus that circulates throughout the campground.
  • There is an EAA Youth Activities Pavilion, DJ Tent and a play area for the kids. No Roller-Skating, Skateboarding or Rollerblading is allowed. A driver’s license is required to drive any type of vehicle in Camp Scholler.

  • Pet Guidelines (Pets allowed in Camp Scholler ONLY
