Actually, advance planning for next year-the 60th convention of the Experimental Aircraft Association-is already well underway. Leading off the list of themes and attractions is the 75th anniversary of the Piper Cub, and the goal, according the Adam Smith, EAA vice president of membership, will be "to create a sea of yellow" with visiting Cubs. FLYING ALONG WITH A SKYWRITER: HASHTAG IN THE SKY
Steve Oliver
Aerobatic pilot and sometimes skywriter Steve Oliver (his wife Suzanne is the skywriting expert) was seen several times above Oshkosh during AirVenture painting messages in the sky to the EAA crowd below. In the following video Steve talks about the planning and precise flying it takes to write a nice clear message in the sky. Aside from the messages of "EAA" and the Oliver's sponsor "Oregon Aero" appearing in the sky, EAA asked him to write a very special message to Twitter users, preparing them for AirVenture 2012. VISITORS SAY 'BUY' TO AIRVENTURE
VendorsThe economy may be less than robust and the federal government may be in danger of running out of money, but AirVenture attendees came to Oshkosh in a buying mood, according to an unscientific poll of exhibitors, ranging from aircraft manufacturers to aviation jewelry vendors. LSA manufacturer Flight Design USA reported "exceptionally strong sales" at the show. "We have taken 40 orders for the new C4, plus another eight orders for light-sport aircraft here at AirVenture 2011," said John Gilmore, the company's national sales manager. Read more
