RESTORED
AVRO ANSON MARK 1 MAKES FIRST FLIGHT IN NEW ZEALAND
An
Avro Anson Mark 1 made its first flight last week after a recently
completely a 10-year restoration at Nelson Airport in Nelson, New
Zealand. The airplane, now the only flying example in the world, was the
first RAF monoplane with a retractable undercarriage. It began
production in 1935, and more than 11,000 were created until production
ceased in 1952. Mark 1s were widely used in World War II by British,
Australian, Canadian, and New Zealand air forces as trainer planes. Bill
and Robyn Reid restored the plane after acquiring it from the Australian
Airworld Museum in Northern Victoria. Bill Reid is scheduled to attend
AirVenture Oshkosh 2012.

THE OSHKOSH ARRIVAL QUIZ
I
hope that you are finalizing your plans to fly into Oshkosh soon
for AirVenture 2012. When I landed on Runway 27 on Tuesday, July
17, I saw the first airplane in the North 40 parking area, a
Cessna 210. Stancie and I were the only airplane on tower
frequency from the time Milwaukee approach cleared us for the
visual to Runway 27. What a difference a couple days makes.
Since we all live and fly by the
Oshkosh AirVenture NOTAM, how about a little quiz to test your
knowledge of the procedures. Read more

GRASS STRIP AVAILABLE FOR ANTIQUE
AIRCRAFT
Final
approval from the FAA's Airport District Office in Minnesota will
allow a temporary grass runway to be used by special aircraft
during AirVenture. Working together, Wittman Regional Airport
management, Vintage Aircraft Association, and EAA staff have been
able to re-establish this strip to allow pilots of unique and
historic aircraft to bring them to the annual fly-in without fear
of having to land on pavement. When given prior approval by the
FAA ATC tower personnel in Oshkosh, antique aircraft equipped with
a tailskid or tailwheel that are more safely operated off a turf
strip will be allowed to land on the temporary grass runway,
located southwest of the approach end of runway 36L. Read

Q&A:
I am coming to Oshkosh for AirVenture 2012, and I
can't find my EAA membership card. Do I need to have
it with me to get the member discount when I buy my
camping credentials and admission wristbands?
Answer: Not to
worry, the admission gates have computers that can
be used to access your membership status and
information. You will receive the member rates as
long as you are a member in good standing, and you
may also renew your membership on the spot if that
is necessary. You will not receive a membership card
at that time, but you may ask for a confirmation of
membership receipt that you can use just like your
card. If you renew your membership here, or if you
request a replacement card, your new card will
arrive at the address we have on file for you within
2-4 weeks.
