MAC'S BLOG: Is It Time for Active Controls?
Tamarack Aerospace is working to certify active flight controls on the Cirrus SR22. A longer wingspan adds to the performance and efficiency of an airplane, but it also adds structural weight because the length of the wing increases the bending moment of loads. Just like using a longer pry bar, a longer wing when loaded by turbulence or maneuvering applies more force to the wing root. If the wing isn't structurally strong, the increased bending moment can snap it.

EAA Honors Five Aviators With Hall of Fame Induction
The Experimental Aircraft Association will recognize the contributions made to the world of flight by five aviators on Thursday, November 15, as it inducts them into the EAA Hall of Fame during a banquet at the EAA Aviation Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The five aviators represent the spectrum of aviation within the EAA community and have achieved notable successes within their particular realm of flight. Read more >>

Eagle Flights Off to Encouraging Start
About three months since its introduction at AirVenture Oshkosh 2012, EAA's Eagle Flights program participants have provided close to 250 individual aviation experiences to non-aviators, with more than 4,500 registration forms requested for future flights. Eagle Flights offers flights to adults who have always had a love of aviation, but for whatever reason have not yet acted on that love. Read more >>

George McGovern, WWII B-24 Pilot, Passes Away
George McGovern, who passed away Sunday at the age of 90, will forever be remembered as the Democratic candidate who was defeated by Richard Nixon in the 1972 presidential election. But EAA members who met or saw him at AirVenture Oshkosh in 2007 will remember the longtime South Dakota Senator as a fellow pilot who flew 35 combat missions in B-24 bombers during World War II. EAA Opposes New Mexico's Proposed Seaplane Ban
EAA is opposing a proposed change to the New Mexico Administrative Code that would ban seaplanes from every body of water within the state park system, essentially shutting down all operations on virtually all navigable waterways in the state. The proposal runs in sharp contradiction to New Mexico's rich history of friendliness to aviation. Read more >>

Rare L-39 Version to Attend Copperstate
Among the visiting airplanes at this week's Copperstate Fly-In & Aviation Expo will be a rare Aero Vodochody L-39 ZA, the "ground attack" model of Czech jet trainer. The 40th annual event begins today and runs through Saturday, October 27, at Arizona's Casa Grande Municipal Airport. The aircraft, owned and operated by Arnie Evdokimo, EAA 541497/Warbirds of America 548518/IAC 25422, won first place in the Military category last year at Copperstate. Read more >>
