A 'Great, Grand' Solo
For Tanya Brown, EAA 1103125, it was never a question of if but when she would learn how to fly. After all, her great-grandfather Elmore was a pilot. His son, Tanya's grandfather Richard, flew for a living and owns an air strip. And Richard's son, Tanya's father Tom, has been a pilot for more than 40 years. Last week, Tanya, 27, successfully soloed to become the first fourth-generation pilot in the flying Brown family. Read more >>

A Human-Powered Helicopter
The University of Maryland-Clark School of Engineering's Gamera Project team has its sights set on winning the $250,000 AHS Sikorsky Prize, awarded to the first human-powered helicopter. The team's latest video shows the program's history and progress, and was entered in a competition that could net up to $10,000 to help defray costs if it gets enough votes by December 1. EAA Volunteer Advisory Committee Members Announced
EAA is truly blessed to have many thousands of dedicated volunteer members who not only promote aviation in their local communities throughout the year but also make the annual EAA AirVenture Oshkosh convention possible. This week marks an important milestone in our 60-year history as we announce the first EAA Volunteer Advisory Committee (VAC), comprised of 11 appointed members, selected for their past volunteer leadership as well as their commitment to help improve the EAA volunteer experience in the future. Christmas in the Air EAA's Annual Christmas in the Air Is Monday
Get into the holiday spirit in an uplifting setting as EAA hosts "Christmas in the Air" from 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. next Monday, December 3, at the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh. EAA announced this week the promotion of EAA staffers Jennifer Bork and Lucas Hartwig to lead the EAA SportAir Workshops as the new program model is rolled out for 2013. Bork has accepted the position of SportAir Workshops Coordinator and Hartwig, Workshop Logistics Coordinator. Read more >>

Wright Brothers Banquet Join in Honoring Wright Brothers, Frank Christensen December 14
Aircraft design pioneer Frank Christensen, who advanced kit-built aircraft with his innovative Eagle aerobatic airplane, will be the featured speaker at EAA's annual Wright Brothers Memorial Banquet at the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh. This year's banquet will also serve as the official debut of a new exhibit in the museum's Aerobatics Gallery that honors Christensen's prototype Christen Eagle II, which he donated to EAA in 2011. The annual EAA gala commemorates the anniversary of the Wright brothers' first successful powered flight on December 17, 1903, in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Make your reservation today!

EAA Desktop Calendar December 2012: 1940 Rearwin Cloudster
This 1940 Rearwin Cloudster, now part of the EAA AirVenture Museum collection, was donated to EAA by Ed McKeown, EAA 212386/Vintage 32087, of Village of Lakewood, Illinois. Only 125 Cloudsters were built, and Ed said his (S/N 828) is one of only a few known airworthy examples. It took seven years for Ed and Roger Shadick, owner of Noble Aviation in Eagle River, Wisconsin, to restore the airplane. Get wallpaper >>
