This special winter event celebrates three important occasions: the unique flight segment of skiplane flying, the anniversary of the first-ever meeting of the Experimental Aircraft Association, and the January 24 birthday of EAA matriarch Audrey Poberezny. This is an almost impossible requirement to meet even though its safety objective is so essential. But thanks to Dr. Leonard Greene, every airplane can meet the rule and give pilots enough warning to avoid stalling. Dr. Greene invented the stall warning system near the end of World War II and founded Safe Flight Instrument Corp. to build the equipment so every airplane can warn its pilot in time to avoid stalling. Read more >> GA Could Face New 'Cliff' in Early 2013 While Congress reached a last-minute tax deal to avoid the "fiscal cliff" on Tuesday, its decision to move consideration of major budget cuts until the end of February presents potential threats to GA. As reported on EAA.org earlier this week, mandatory budget cuts at the FAA could cause delays in services such as aircraft certification, Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval, and other administrative activities. It would also likely delay advancements in projects such as NextGen. Read more >> Dig for Burma Spitfires Begins Soon The excavation for reclaim never-used Spitfires that were buried by British troops in Burma (Myanmar) nearly 70 years ago is expected to begin in less than three weeks, according to The Irrawaddy news service in Burma. It's believed that as many as 36 Spitfires, still in the packing crates in which they were shipped in 1945, are at the site near the Rangoon International Airport.
