Leap Year Twins Earn Private Tickets Together
The fact that Dan Fredrickson, EAA 1029515, and his twin brother Josh, EAA 1029516, passed their checkrides when they turned 17 years old is not all that unusual; aspiring young aviators frequently aim for that first eligible date when training to become a pilot. What makes Dan and Josh's situation unique is that they are "leaplings". Read more >>

Lainey's First Airplane Ride
No matter how much we love flying, sometimes even the most passionate among us can briefly lose sight of the magic that drew us to fly in the first place. A wonderful video of 6-year-old Lainey Woodson taking her first airplane ride with her father, Bobby, in the family's 1946 Aeronca Champ has been making the rounds on the web. It'll remind you what it's all about. Watch video >>

MAC'S BLOG: Finally, Some Good News
It's been a tough time for general aviation since the U.S. economy went bust in the early fall of 2008. But I was happy to hear some good news for a change when I visited Cirrus Aircraft in Duluth last week. The good news is that, for the first time since the recession began in 2008, Cirrus has a backlog of orders for its new SR22 G5 piston single. The backlog is by no means huge, but still, sales are finally headed in the right direction.

ZENITH 750 BLOG: On to the Fuselage!
The EAA Zenith 750 project took another step forward this week when work began on the fuselage. Veteran Zenith builder Tracy Buttles, from Iola, Wisconsin, got to roll up his sleeves and help the group make some headway with the project. Part of the team started on the bottom skin of the tail cone, others started working on the firewall. The tail cone side skins will be started this weekend, and members who are in the Oshkosh area are always welcome to stop by the Weeks Hangar and see how the project is progressing. Senate Funding Measure Seeks to Preserve Towers, but at a Price
A proposal by U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS) that would restore funding to nearly 200 FAA and contract control towers is a good start toward easing some of FAA's mandated sequestration budget cuts that are disproportionately impacting GA, but EAA warns against undermining other FAA programs that would provide long-term benefits. ELT Issue Heats Up - Again
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), at the urging of federal agencies with aeronautical search and rescue (SAR) responsibility, has proposed to prohibit the manufacture and sale of new 121.5 MHz emergency locator transmitters (ELTs). For 20 years the SAR community has been pressing for a mandated change to 406 MHz ELTs, a move that has been staunchly opposed by EAA and other aviation organizations. Read more >>
