Encore! Gary Sinise & Lt. Dan Band Returning to AirVenture
Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band will return to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in 2013 as the grand finale of a daylong salute to veterans on Friday, August 2. Performing for the fourth time at EAA AirVenture since 2008, the popular band will be hosted at by the Disabled American Veterans and the EAA Warbirds of America at the Philips 66 Plaza stage. AirVenture Concert Band We're Getting the Band Back Together!
After a one-year hiatus, the EAA AirVenture Concert Band will reconvene and perform at the convention this year, and we're looking for musicians. This will be the sixth year EAA members and others will get together to entertain fellow Oshkosh attendees during one of the fly-in's evening programs. Read more >>

EAA staff members have deburred the main spar carry parts and started working on the baggage wall in the EAA Zenith CH 750 building project. FAA Opens Doors to EAA at GA Summit
After budget sequestration limits blocked FAA officials from attending the annual EAA/FAA winter summit in Oshkosh this year, EAA's advocacy staff did the next best thing: They ventured en masse to Washington, D.C., on April 8-9 to meet with top FAA officials on a variety of GA issues. FAA Announces Change in Special Issuance Medical Certification
This week the federal air surgeon announced a major change to the medical certification process for several common diagnoses that have previously required a special issuance and a review process by the FAA prior to issuing a medical certificate. Read more >>

Sun 'n Fun Sun 'n Fun Runs Through Sunday
The 2013 Sun 'n Fun International Fly-In & Expo continues through Sunday at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Florida. EAA invites members to visit the EAA Welcome Center at exhibit space NE-039, 040, 063, and 064, and check out an example of EAA's 2013 Aircraft Sweepstakes grand prize, a Stearman biplane. You can even enter to win it, or pick out some great merchandise and ask any questions about EAA, member services, and benefits. FAA Extends Tower Closure Date to June 15
The Federal Aviation Administration announced last Friday that it will delay the closures of all 149 federal contract air traffic control towers until June 15. Last month, the FAA announced it would eliminate funding for these towers as part of the agency's required $637 million budget cuts under sequestration.

Panthera Pipistrel Panthera Flies for the First Time
Pipistrel announced "a very successful first flight" of its new, four-place Panthera on April 4 at the Airport of Cerklje ob Krki in Ajdovscina, Slovenia. The flight by test pilot Mirko Anzel and copilot Saso Knez followed several high-speed taxi tests and runway hops. Read more >>

White House Re-introduces User Fees
Despite repeated rejections of the proposal in Congress over the past decade, the Obama administration once again introduced $100-per-flight user fees for general aviation even as a majority of the House of Representatives sent a letter to the president opposing the idea. "Each and every administration, representing both parties, cannot seem to resist the temptation of tapping general aviation for new revenue, but user fees were a bad idea before and remain a bad idea today," said Doug Macnair, EAA's vice president of government relations. EAA's new Eagle Flights program that allows adults to discover and explore the joy and fulfillment of flight received a major boost Thursday, as audio specialist Sennheiser committed major support to the year-old program. Read more >>

Panther Panther Sport Prototype Completes First Flight
Sport Performance Aircraft LLC successfully flew its Panther Sport Aircraft prototype for the first time on April 8 at Kay Larkin Airport (28J) in Palatka, Florida. The mid-size, single-seat, low-wing, aerobatic airplane flew for approximately 20 minutes and experienced no issues with controls, performance, or handling, according to the Panther blog.
