EAA Requests Data, Time for Cylinder AD Comments
Earlier this week, EAA, along with AOPA, NATA, American Bonanza Society, Cessna Pilots Association, and Twin Cessna Flyer, submitted a letter to the FAA requesting that input data and results of the FAA's internal risk analysis related to the proposed Engine Components International (ECi) cylinder AD be released to the docket for public review. Reno Reno Air Races Celebrate 50 Years
The 50th annual Reno National Championship Air Races take flight September 11-15 at Reno-Stead Airport, with race pilots competing in six classes - Biplane, Formula 1, T-6, Sport, Jet, and the new Unlimited Warbird Racing Class. Read more >>

DOT, FAA Comment on FCC 121.5 ELT Proposal
DOT and FAA responded to the FCC's Third Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, which seeks to ban the use of 121.5 MHz ELTs in aircraft. DOT and FAA remain strongly against the FCC's proposal, noting that while the agencies "agree that 406 MHz ELT technology is an advance over that used in 121.5 MHz-only ELTs. Read more >>

EAA Reviewing FAA Response to Young Eagles Fuel Petition
In late August, the FAA responded to an EAA petition, filed in April 2012, that would allow volunteer private pilots flying Young Eagles to be reimbursed for fuel consumed, subject to certain conditions. The EAA Young Eagles and advocacy and safety departments are reviewing the exemption to evaluate the benefits and costs to the EAA-member Young Eagles pilots and to the program. Read more >>

Perimeter Road North 40 Perimeter Road Shifts Slightly
Work to be completed for AirVenture 2014

Work began this week on a slight shift of the North 40 perimeter road at Wittman Regional Airport, part of the FAA-recommended project for the airport that already includes new service roads seen on the south end of the fly-in grounds this year. Read more >>

September Swing Flash Back to the 1940s at September Swing
The glamour and romance of the 1940s will be back for one night at the EAA AirVenture Museum on Saturday, September 28, as the museum hosts its September Swing dance in the Eagle Hangar from 7 to 11 p.m. The evening includes swing and big band music from the unique Ladies Must Swing orchestra, a 19-piece group from Madison, Wisconsin. The evening will begin with a social at 7 p.m. followed by an opportunity to learn to swing dance or practice your skills with instructor Bruce Marshall at 7:30, with music beginning at 8. Tough Mudder View 'Tough Mudder' From Above!
This weekend, the challenging Tough Mudder invades the Camp Scholler grounds. You can get a bird's-eye view of your favorite Tough Mudder participants taking on the grueling obstacle course aboard EAA's Bell 47 helicopter! Rides will be available Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $49 per seat and can be purchased at the southeast end of the Pioneer Airport runway. Parking is available in the Brown Lot.
