Developing new aviation technology takes a very long time compared to changing other industries. That's one reason why aviation companies have to be thinking about and testing new concepts that are far into the future. Most of these futuristic ideas never come true - but nobody wants to be left behind. At Honeywell's annual press event at the NBAA convention this week the company talked about some of the furthest out ideas that are actually being imagined, at least a little.

Zenith Blog Update ZENITH BLOG: We Have Our Engine
We continue making significant progress toward completing the EAA staff Zenith CH 750, and now we're happy to report that the engine has been pulled from EAA's Cessna 150H, our first official auto fuel test plane, and is now sitting next to our airplane. Other items worked on over the past week include building rudder cable fairings and the UHMW (ultra-high-molecular-weight) plastic blocks that will serve as rub pads for the control cables where they pass through the empennage.

Young Eagles Young Eagles Student Memberships Top 25,000
In just three short years, more than 25,000 Young Eagles have signed up to be EAA student members. This free membership is available to all Young Eagles as part of the Young Eagles Flight Plan. After a Young Eagles flight (Step 1) each youth receives a logbook with an access code to sign up for the membership (Step 2). Read more >>

Copperstate Copperstate Fly-In Is This Weekend
The 41st annual Copperstate Fly-In & Aviation Expo - "Keeping the Dream Alive" - begins today and runs through Saturday at the Casa Grande Municipal Airport in Arizona. Ideal weather is forecast with no chance of rain, and organizers are looking for a big turnout of pilots and aviation enthusiasts of all ages. Pilots who fly in with their own plane can register to win an iPad. The Commemorative Air Force-Arizona Wing plans to fly in several warbirds, with flights and ground tours available. Admission is just $5 on Thursday and $15 on Friday and Saturday ($13 for active/retired military). A three-day pass for the event is available for $25, and youths 15 and under are free when accompanied by a paying adult. For more information, visit the Copperstate website.

Aviators who need medical certification special issuances from the Federal Aviation Administration can now get assistance to reduce the complexity and hassle through a new program exclusively for EAA members. Read more >>

EAA Supports Wisconsin Aviation Sales Tax Exemption Proposal
EAA supports Wisconsin Senate Bill 348, bipartisan legislation that would exempt aviation parts, maintenance, and labor from sales and use taxes in the state. The state currently levies a 5 percent tax on these services, while Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana all exempt aviation parts and labor from sales tax. This proposed legislation would eliminate the significant competitive disadvantage for state aviation maintenance businesses. Read more >>

121st Homecoming EAA Proudly Hosts Returning National Guard Unit
For the fifth time since 2006, EAA facilities played host to a Wisconsin military unit deployed to the Middle East, as the Wisconsin Army National Guard's Battery B, 1st Battalion, 121st Field Artillery unit returned home to a rousing welcome on Friday, October 18. Read more >>

Errol Severe Aviation Cadet World Reflects All Things EAA
Errol D. Severe, EAA 450054, is on a dual mission to spread knowledge of his fellow aviation cadets from World War II and boost interest in EAA's mission of growing participation in aviation. He does so in a number of ways, but his biggest project is the Aviation Cadet World at Silver Wings Field in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, where he is the founder and president. Read more >>

TruTrak Announces New Ownership, Leadership
TruTrak Flight Systems, experimental/light sport aircraft autopilot developer, announced that Andrew Barker is its new president/CEO. Barker has been with the company since its founding in 1999 as well as a partner with founder Jim Younkin for seven years. After more than 50 years working in aviation, Jim has decided to sell his portion of the company to the other existing owners and retire. Read more >>

California Pilot Latest Winner of Lightspeed Headset
Young Eagles pilot Bruce Filarsky, EAA 838850, of Winter, California, is the lucky third-quarter winner of a Zulu headset courtesy of Lightspeed Aviation. Filarsky, who has flown more than 440 Young Eagles since 2008, was automatically entered in the drawing by submitting the Young Eagles registration forms for his Young Eagles flights made between July1 and September 30.
