EAA Christmas in the Air 2013
EAA opened its doors to thousands of people from the greater Oshkosh community for the annual Christmas in the Air celebration. Not only were people treated to great yuletide entertainment and goodies, but attendees also came through with generous donations of nonperishable food, toys, and clothing for families in need. As is tradition at EAA, Santa Claus made his grand arrival by helicopter to the delight of children of all ages.

Thunderbirds AirVenture on Initial Air Force Thunderbirds Schedule
The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, one of the world's premier military jet teams, has scheduled an appearance at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh as part of its 2014 flying schedule. The 62nd annual EAA fly-in convention is scheduled for July 28-August 3 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Read more >>

J. Mac McClellan Blog MAC'S BLOG: Shell Is Saying the Right Things About Unleaded Avgas
Shell's announcement that it has an unleaded avgas formula that is working well at a full 100 octane caused a commotion this week. It's the first time any major oil company has said it has a solution to the lead problem. And a company the size of Shell brings credibility to the effort to transition to lead-free avgas. I had a chance to speak with Michael Sargeant, who is Shell's avgas commercialization manager. I asked Sargeant about the headline concerns we all have for the unleaded replacement fuel. Zenith Blog Update ZENITH BLOG: Lights Arrive, While Progress Continues
Progress continued this week on EAA's Zenith CH 750 staff build project, with work progressing on the doors and windshield. The news for this week is that the donated AeroLED Pulsar System lights have arrived, and EAA thanks AeroLEDs for this generous donation. Looking ahead to our next building session, work is anticipated on the engine mount, scheduled to arrive this week. Read more >>

President Signs Part 23 Rewrite Bill Into Law
President Obama signed the Small Airplane Revitalization Act of 2013 into law on Friday, enacting the legislation approved by Congress in mid-November. The new law gives the FAA until December 31, 2015, to adopt the recommendations of the Part 23 Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC). The committee's final package of recommendations was designed to double the safety of general aviation while halving the cost of certification. Read more >>

Shell Announces Development of Unleaded GA Fuel
Shell today became the first major oil company to develop a lead-free replacement for aviation gasoline (avgas 100 and 100LL) which will now begin testing and evaluation under FAA regulation. According to Shell's announcement today, the new lead-free formulation comes after 10 years of exhaustive R&D, as well as successful initial testing, carried out in the last two months by two original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). EAA Skiplane Fly-In EAA's Skiplane Fly-In Moved to February 8
The annual EAA Skiplane Fly-In has been moved from its traditional January date to Saturday, February 8, at EAA's Pioneer Airport in Oshkosh, to increase the likelihood of sufficient snow to host flying activities.

EAA thanks all who graciously participated in the annual Spirit of the Holidays Online Auction, which concluded Monday. Together we raised a total of $68,251.53 - about $18,000 more than what was raised in 2012. Read more >>

Jet Waco Screamin' Sasquatch Jet Waco Unveiled at ICAS
John Klatt Airshows unveiled a new aircraft for the 2014 air show season this week at the annual International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) convention in Las Vegas. It's a 1929 Taperwing Waco biplane powered by both a Pratt & Whitney 985 Wasp Junior radial and a GE J85 jet engine with 3,000 pounds of thrust. Read more >>
