These Are Spartans!

June 23, 2016 - Jim Savage, EAA 855724, has some great news for lovers of vintage aircraft, in particular, the striking, art deco Spartan Executive: in addition to his airplane, NC17634, he’s expecting at least three other Executives to fly in to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016. That, in addition to the example in our museum, means we could see five of these rare types on the field this summer, out of just 34 total produced. Savage also pointed out that “although there is no formal Spartan Type Club, and as such no special activities are planned for this group of airplanes this year, the Spartan Executive, like a number of other aircraft that will be attending Oshkosh, will be celebrating 80 years since the type certificate was granted in 1936.”
