August 8, 2013 - As AirVenture continues to grow, trips from places like the South 40 to Warbirds in Review or KidVenture to the Ultralights runway can be quite a trek. For the past few years, EAA has been offering the CARTS program to help transport guests who may have luggage, a physical ailment, or simply a really long walk to make.
Not only do these rides help our attendees, but the drivers also take donations that go directly to the Young Eagles program to help in getting as many young people in the air as we can! The CARTS program at AirVenture 2013 raised more than $1,800 for Young Eagles, and all the program's feedback was great.
Each day, dozens of volunteers helped with the CARTS program, chaired by Dennis Mangan, and their efforts were greatly appreciated by those who took advantage of the service. Janine Diana, EAA vice president of human resources, saw it as a win-win.
"We want to celebrate and support Dennis and his team and all they do," she said. "We also greatly appreciate the guests who contributed to our Young Eagles program and hope to raise even more next year!"
Along with the success of KidVenture and myriad Young Eagles events during AirVenture Oshkosh 2013, 1.8 million youngsters got to experience the joy of flight and The Spirit of Aviation thanks to all of the hard work and hours our volunteers have put into the program.
EAA gives a big thanks to all who helped with the CARTS program, as well as those who contributed to the Young Eagles in other ways - from pilots, to program managers, to monetary donators - thank you!
