July 23, 2014 - The Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) will be awarding five $1,000 ADS-B upgrade incentive awards at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014, to be announced July 29-August 2. The AEA will be issuing up to five awards as a way to assist GA pilots in meeting the FAA’s ADS-B-out compliance regulation, which will begin January 1, 2020. Pilots can enter to win one of the cash giveaways at the AEA’s booths, 2035 and 2036, in Hangar B during the convention.
“The avionics repair shops have less than six years to equip approximately 186,000 operational aircraft, which means the industry must upgrade more than 130 aircraft per workday between now and the deadline,” said Paula Derks, AEA president. “By awarding $1,000 to five different aircraft owners to help them become compliant sooner rather than later, the AEA hopes to send a message to owners of general aviation aircraft that the time to act and upgrade is now.”
Winners will be announced daily through AEA’s social media outlets Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, as well as its Oshkosh exhibit. Aircraft owners must be at least 18 years old to register. It is necessary for the winners to use an AEA member avionics shop to complete the installation, and the installation needs to be scheduled by August 1, 2015. One entry gives aircraft owners a chance to win each of the five daily drawings.
