November 12, 2013 - EAA is extending condolences to U.S. Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) and his family on the death of the senator's son, Dr. Perry Inhofe, in an aircraft accident near Owasso, Oklahoma, on Sunday afternoon.
According to media reports, the MU-2 aircraft piloted by Perry Inhofe went down five miles away from the Owasso airport at about 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. He was the only person on board, according to the National Transportation Safety Board investigative team at the site.
"Our thoughts and prayers go to Sen. Inhofe and his family during this difficult time," said EAA Chairman Jack Pelton.
The Tulsa World newspaper quoted NTSB accident investigator Aaron Sauer on Monday evening as saying that although it is too early to determine a cause, investigators are confident that they can retrieve the necessary information to determine the cause of the accident.
Sen. Inhofe (EAA 179992) and his sons are annual visitors to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh and the senator is a staunch supporter of general aviation on Capitol Hill. Perry Inhofe (EAA 730028) was an orthopedic surgeon in Tulsa.
