July 17, 2013 - New quick-build options are now available from Sonex Aircraft for the Sonex, Waiex, and Onex models. Kits will include Sonex Complete Airframe Kits with preconstructed major assemblies.
The fuselage and wings will be assembled and riveted, and the aircraft canopy will be installed. Sonex and Waiex wings are rigged and match-drilled to the fuselage, while Onex outboard wing panels are rigged and match-drilled to the wing center section.
Price for the quick-build upgrade is $10,000 for each model. Combined with the Complete Airframe Kit pricing, the Quick-Build Sonex Aircraft kit total price will start at $23,000.
Last week the FAA National Kit Evaluation Team (NKET) confirmed that the new quick-build kits are in compliance with the "major portion" requirement of 14 CFR section 21.191(g) for experimental amateur-built aircraft - more commonly known as the 51 percent rule.
"The FAA NKET once again completed a thorough, professional, and consistent audit of the quick-build Sonex, Waiex, and Onex kits," Monnett continued. "Sonex is seeking to maximize the amount we are allowed to do using the 8000-38 checklist to deliver value both in terms of build time and reduction of skills needed for construction while maintaining the highest possible quality and workmanship." Sonex expects the 8000-38 checklists for each kit to be published on the FAA website soon.
Sonex offers specialized transport services to most regions of the lower 48 United States through Partain Transport Company. Partain offers safe, fully insured transport services including residential delivery at no additional charge without the need for crating. Kits shipping internationally will be fully crated for a $500 fee.
