February 27, 2014 - James White, EAA Lifetime 641417, of Carol Stream, Illinois, was presented with a 2013 United Airlines Volunteer Impact Grant in honor of his volunteer work at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh's KidVenture. The $1,000 grant will help support the programs and activities at KidVenture, and are a direct result of his service in the KidVenture riveting booth sponsored by Van's Aircraft.
Jim has worked at United for 28 years, starting as a mechanic and currently travels throughout the country as a maintenance instructor. He's also building an RV-9A and has volunteered at KidVenture since 2006.
"Before that for a number of years, I took my kids there," he said.
His brother Al White is co-chairman of KidVenture and runs the riveting booth where kids can learn that key metal aircraft construction skill as a part of building an RV-12. In 2013, Jim White received a special award given each year to the outstanding KidVenture volunteer of the year - a riveted flap section signed by numerous well known aviators. The rivet booth is supported by Van's Aircraft.
