Welcome to the April 2009 Issue of Experimenter
Remember Ricky Nelson’s song “Travelin’ Man”? That’s me this month! I started out by visiting EAA chapters in the Las Vegas area and am now enjoying the sights and sounds of the Sun ’n Fun Fly-In at Lakeland, Florida. While I don’t typically plan to write about government issues, this is a challenging time.
In Las Vegas I met with members of EAA Chapters 1300 and 163. While there to discuss EAA’s programs and offerings for the homebuilder community, the Nevada Senate reintroduced a resolution to enact legislation authorizing the Clark County Department of Aviation to restrict experimental flight activity and flight training from the North Las Vegas Airport. Much to our relief, leveler heads prevailed, and a modified version of the resolution passed without a call for congressional action. Rather, it called for formation of a “stakeholders group” to enhance overall flight safety in the area. EAA will support members in the Las Vegas area as this stakeholder’s group moves forward with its studies and recommendations, and I will join the group for its first meeting next month.
With threats against our freedom to fly, such as the Large Aircraft Security Proposal, and potential threats to our freedom of access to airports as the Nevada resolution initially suggested, it’s more important than ever to stay informed and involved.
I urge you to stay updated on issues by visiting our site at www.EAA.org/govt. Share this info with your fellow EAA members. Spread the word! And while you’re at it, tell your fellow homebuilders to subscribe to Experimenter!
Enjoy this month's issue!
