'Tis the Seasons - Happy Holidays

By Bob Mackey, Vice President, Falcon Insurance Agency, Inc.

I've always been a holiday "nut." As a child I was always the first to bed on Christmas Eve thinking that the sooner I go to bed to sooner Christmas morning would come. Unfortunately for my two sisters and my parents, Christmas morning often began around 2 a.m.! To this day, while I'm not up at the crack of dawn, I still enjoy giving and getting gifts during the holidays.

Speaking of giving gifts, if you are current pilot, why not give one of the greatest gifts any pilot can give--share the sky above with someone who's never been flying in a general aviation airplane! If you're giving children a ride, contact EAA Young Eagles headquarters to obtain materials for enrolling a youngster in this truly special program.

If you are planning to go flying or make a cross-country flight this holiday season, have a wonderful flight and above all else, be safe. If you've not flown in a while make sure you thoroughly refresh your flying skills while you are updating your currency. If need be, get an hour or two with a CFI. Regardless, make sure you and your airplane are in prefect shape and ready to fly.

Be sure you check the weather and don't get pushed into making any hurried decisions. Wherever you are flying to, getting there SAFELY is the only objective. If you have to wait a day or two before starting your trip or heading back home, enjoy those days waiting. Changing your plans is a lot better than dealing with the consequences of an of an airplane accident.

One last thought: If you have some spare time over the holidays, grab your current aircraft insurance policy and visit to www.eaainsurance.org to fill out an online quote request form. If your current insurance doesn't come up for renewal for several months, go ahead and fill out the quote request form. An EAA Insurance Plan specialist will note the date and provide an aircraft insurance quote when your insurance is due.

EAA INSURANCE TIPS is a special EAA Member benefit. If you have an insurance related topic you’d like to see addressed or if you have any comments, please email bmackey@falconinsurance.com. If you need an insurance quotation call 866-647-4EAA (4322).
