Date Announced for Illinois Ultralight Safety Seminar
Scott Gaitros exhibited his Magni gyro at the 2010 Illinois Ultralight/Lightplane Safety Seminar.
The oldest and largest safety seminar focusing on ultralights and light-sport aircraft will hold its 31st annual event on February 26, 2011. The Illinois Ultralight Advisory Council (IUAC) was formed over 30 years ago to work with the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration to further the safe growth of what was at the time an emerging sport. One of the innovative ideas they brought to the sport was the Illinois Ultralight/Lightplane Safety Seminar.
The seminar brings ultralight pilots together to learn from one another and experts in the field. From rather humble beginnings, the founders grew the program to one of the largest safety seminars – for any type of aircraft – in the state of Illinois. Furthermore, their model for a safety seminar program has been duplicated in several states, helping to make the sport safer for pilots all across the country.
The seminar program is supported by the state of Illinois and by sponsors. Many sponsors offer items for door prizes and raffle prizes. Vendors are a big reason to come to the event. On breaks between speakers and during the lunch hour, attendees are welcome to visit the convention floor right outside the auditorium where companies and organizations are set up with displays and aircraft. It’s also a great opportunity to visit with other pilots and friends from around the region.
The safety seminar is free to those attending, which include vendors who are invited to display their wares to the hundreds that will be present. Speakers volunteer their time, with their travel expenses covered by the raffle held during the event. The IUAC Ultralight/Lightplane Safety Seminar will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011, at the Illinois Building and Auditorium on the Illinois State Fairground in Springfield, Illinois.
