Popular Rotorcraft Association Fly-In Welcomes Powrachute Extravaganza
The 49th annual convention and fly-in of the Popular Rotorcraft Association to be held August 2 to 6 at the Mentone Airport (C92), Mentone, Indiana, will be joined with the Powrachute Extravaganza, the largest and longest running powered parachute gathering in the United States. This is a rare opportunity to see both kinds of these unique flying machines; talk to the pilots, builders, and kit manufacturers; and see these aircraft fly.
The Popular Rotorcraft Association (PRA) convention and fly-in has been presented every year for almost five decades. In recent years it has been held at the Indiana-based Mentone Airport, owned by PRA. All aircraft types are welcome to fly in, and a support crew will work to blend fixed-wing and rotary-wing traffic parking. The airport has on-site space for tent camping, showers, and also hookups for water and electricity for RVs. Wi-Fi Internet access is available near the PRA office. A concession stand provides food and beverage service. Local motels are available. Premium auto gas will be available on-site for purchase, and 100LL is available 7 miles away.
Visitors will see daily flight demonstrations and open flying continuing throughout each day. CFIs will also offer demonstration rides. Presented daily, forums and workshops will discuss many aspects of building and flying gyroplanes, helicopters, light-sport aircraft, and powered parachutes. The rotorcraft will range from simple open-frame ultralight gyroplanes and helicopters to multiseat enclosed cross-country rotorcraft. A raffle will be held for a new Powrachute-powered parachute.
The Popular Rotorcraft Association is a worldwide organization of personal rotorcraft enthusiasts. In addition to hosting this annual convention, PRA also sponsors local and regional events and promotes flying safety and information exchange. More information about PRA and its activities is available online at www.PRA.org or by calling 574-353-7227.
