Air Creation Skypper LSA Coming to United States

Skypper LSA

Neil Bungard of Air Creation USA LLC confirmed that the first Air Creation Skypper trike to be certificated as a special light-sport aircraft (S-LSA) will arrive in the United States from France in May. The 100-hp Rotax 912 powered trike will be fitted with the new NuviX variable geometry wing. The Skypper is intended to replace Air Creation's very popular GTE and incorporates many advanced features of its top-of-the-line Tanarg LSA and BioniX wing.

Introduced in 2011, the Skypper trike unit with the NuviX wing may look similar to the sporty GTE. But it's a completely new design with improved geometry, lowered seating, and a relocated mast for better balance, and it uses much of the technology and materials pioneered in the Tanarg trike. The NuviX wing utilizes the same "adjustable corset" feature as the BioniX wing for trim speed control through variable geometry of the wing. The NuviX wing is slightly lighter and slower than the BioniX and saves considerable cost as it doesn't have the carbon-fiber wingtips, vortex generators on the leading edge, or the air-venting feature of the BioniX. It's also said to have a lighter and easier handling. It was designed specifically for the sporty Skypper.

The Skypper can be ordered with Rotax 582 or Rotax 912 power. The NuviX wings have already been arriving in the United States for use on existing Air Creation trikes, but this will be the first Skypper LSA trike in the United States; Neil hopes to have the paperwork completed in June. In addition to the 15.2-square-meter NuviX wing, Air Creation also offers the iXess-13 and a Fun 450 wing for use on the Rotax 582 powered Skypper. New Air Creation products can be viewed and flown at Marana Regional Airport in Marana (Tucson), Arizona. Call for an introductory flight.

Single-seat and FAR 103 trike enthusiasts will be happy to learn that although production of the Racer series has been discontinued due to the unavailability of the Rotax 447 engine, it's still possible to special-order the Racer trike exclusively from Air Creation USA LLC as a kit without an engine. The single-seat Fun14 wing is also still available.
