Aviation Enthusiasts Climb In and Take the Controls at EAA Museum's Open Cockpit Weekend

Maintenance Hangar's Open House and Museum 'Hops & Props' Event Round Out Activity-Filled Weekend at EAA

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. - (February 28, 2006) — This weekend, March 4-5, visitors to EAA's AirVenture Museum can do more than look at the impressive collection of recreational, military, and innovative aircraft. During EAA's Open Cockpit weekend from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. each day, they will get an up-close look at the aircraft cockpits and, in several cases, be able to take a seat and manipulate the controls.

"If you're like Snoopy, taking flights of fancy or dogfighting against the Red Baron, this is the weekend to come to the museum," said Nicole Raudabaugh, museum activities coordinator. "We expect to hear more than one visitor making airplane noises as they sit at the controls."

Museum guides will provide information on the spotlighted aircraft and their cockpit features.

Aircraft Maintenance and Restoration Center Open House

On the same weekend, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. each day, EAA is also providing a rare, behind-the-scenes tour of EAA's aircraft maintenance and restoration center during the Kermit Weeks Hangar Open House. Highlights will include a chance to see EAA's B-17, Aluminum Overcast, which is nearing completion of an 18-month repair and restoration, plus a number of other EAA aircraft undergoing their annual winter maintenance. This is a great opportunity to see a facility that is normally closed to the public, and to learn from staff and volunteers about the fascinating work that goes on in EAA's restoration and maintenance facility.

EAA members who wish to fly into Wittman Regional Airport for the open house are welcome to park at the Weeks Hangar. Open Cockpit Weekend and the Weeks Hangar open house are both included with museum admission.

Hops & Props

EAA's activity-filled weekend also includes Saturday night's Hops & Props, a beer-tasting event in the museum's historic aviation setting. Visitors will be able to sample over 100 different microbrews and a variety of hors d'oeuvres. Several renowned local artists will provide the musical backdrop. Visitors may also opt to enrich their experience by enrolling in the pre-event beer school and dining experience, or by electing to visit the Private Import Room, where over 50 beers from around the world will be available for sampling. Attendees may also enter a raffle to win a five-night trip for two to Ireland, airfare and hotel included. Proceeds from Hops & Props and the raffle will support EAA's community programs for residents in the Fox Valley region.

Hops & Props attendance is limited, and EAA anticipates this event to be selling out. To make reservations, go to www.eaa.org/hops&props.
