GlobalFlyer Launch Window Remains Closed Through January 31

January 25, 2006 — Mission status for the Virgin Atlantic GlobalFlyer's Ultimate Flight continues to be Code Red and will remain so through at least January 31, according to mission control. This means that the window for the earliest possible launch opens on Wednesday, February 1, although a definite date is unconfirmed.

Code Red status means conditions are not appropriate for launch at the Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral, Florida. Engine thrust for the Virgin Atlantic GlobalFlyer is greater at cooler temperatures, with full thrust achieved at 11 C (52 F) or lower. Launching with maximum thrust will ensure optimal performance, giving the record attempt the greatest chance for success.

Code Yellow means launch is being considered, while Code Green means all systems are go.
