January 26, 2006 — There is still an opportunity to participate in EAA's Year-End Appeal, an annual fund-raising program that helps support the organization's many vital and unique education and preservation programs. The current (FY2005) campaign includes a special invitation to EAA members and friends who participate at the $2,500 level or higher in a gesture of thanks for their support.

Cirrus Design founders and longtime EAAers Alan and Dale Klapmeier have extended a gracious invitation to those special contributors to join them for a special visit to Cirrus Design headquarters in Duluth Minnesota. On Friday morning, April 28, 2006, donors and a guest will fly on a Cirrus SR22 from Oshkosh to Duluth for a personal VIP tour of the facility. They'll then fly back to Oshkosh and join the EAA board of directors for dinner that evening. Overnight accommodations (if needed) are provided on April 27-28 in the EAA Air Academy Lodge.

Birth of a Vision
Alan and Dale say their vision to create their aircraft company was a direct result of involvement in the Experimental Aircraft Association. Participation in EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, interaction with EAA members, reading Sport Aviation-these factors helped fuel their passion and gave them the confidence and encouragement to turn their vision into Cirrus Design, the world's leading general aviation manufacturer today.

At the 1988 Oshkosh Convention and Fly-In, the brothers Klapmeier arrived to great acclaim with their first airplane, the futuristic homebuilt prototype Cirrus VK-30. Seventeen years later (at AirVenture 2005) they returned with that groundbreaking composite pusher and presented it to EAA AirVenture Museum, where it resides as one of the centerpieces of the Innovations Gallery. Alan and Dale wanted to share the aircraft with the organization that provided them with "the inspirational environment that encourages innovation, creativity, and exceptional standards."

Because of their strong belief that EAA is the "keeper of the flame," nurturing the environment in which innovation thrives, inspiration is shared, and hard work produces results, Alan and Dale are vocal participants in EAA's Year End Appeal. Financial commitment of EAA members helps the organization continue to preserve aviation's past and inspire its future.

Join The Effort
Whether it's a Young Eagle out on a first flight, a future designer marveling at some unique aircraft, or a father and son planning a homebuilt project together, EAA will always be there to help the love of aviation grow. Your participation-at any level-helps us ensure that vision.

The Year End Appeal concludes on February 28. If you would like to join the effort, or learn more about the program, please contact Vice President of Development Elissa Lines at elines@eaa.org, or 800-236-1025.
