EAA Preparing For Big Week At Sun 'N Fun

April 12 , 2007 — EAA will help usher in another flying season at spring?s traditional opening event, the Sun ?n Fun Fly-In at Lakeland, Florida. The 33rd annual gathering?s theme this year is ?Living the Dream,? and it all happens at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport on Tuesday, April 17 through Monday, April 23.

EAA has numerous activities planned throughout the week, including forums and workshops, member gatherings, Sport Pilot/Light-Sport Aircraft activities, special appearances by the Founder, and more. Remember, EAA members also receive special admission discounts every day and other benefits throughout the grounds.

?Sun ?n Fun kicks off the fly-in season and stokes the enthusiasm among many EAA members and other aviation enthusiasts for EAA AirVenture Oshkosh later this summer,? said EAA president Tom Poberezny. ?EAA members have a long tradition of being active at Sun ?n Fun, and are proud to have played a prominent role in that event?s growth as it has matured into an independent operation with its own staff, planning and infrastructure.?

Sun ?n Fun began in the 1970s with critical leadership and volunteer support provided by EAA chapters. In recent years, Sun ?n Fun has assumed its own identity as one of the country?s most significant aviation events. As always, hundreds of EAA members are Sun ?n Fun volunteers, sharing their time and talents to ensure the event?s success. Many of these members come from the ranks of the more than 4,000 volunteers who annually support EAA AirVenture Oshkosh.

Visit EAA Member Village

The EAA Member Village is a prime destination where members and other aviation enthusiasts can meet EAA staff, renew acquaintances, and learn more about the many benefits and advantages of belonging to EAA. Some of the Village highlights this year include:

  • The Aviat Husky Sweepstakes airplane will be on display, and sweepstakes tickets can be obtained during Sun ?n Fun at EAA Member Village.
  • EAA partners, including Falcon Insurance Agency (EAA Insurance Plan); AirFleet Capital (EAA Aircraft Financing Program); and U. S. Bank (EAA Platinum Visa Card) will have representatives on hand to explain their beneficial programs.
  • Members can register for daily member giveaways.
  • Put your mark on the EAA Member Map.

Sport Pilot/Light-Sport Aircraft

Continuing its leadership role in the Sport Pilot/Light-Sport Aircraft initiative, EAA staff and volunteers will conduct numerous forums on virtually any aspect of the movement. Also, EAA will once again offer free sport pilot student pilot certificates to EAA members throughout the week. An FAA designated pilot examiner will be at Member Village from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. daily issuing the certificates, saving aspiring student sport pilots $50-$60!

In addition, EAA Senior Vice President Bob Warner will help Light Aircraft Manufacturers Association (LAMA) officials unveil their new LSA Audit Program at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 19, in the EAA Publications Tent.

Forums and Workshops

EAA staff and volunteer representatives will present a wide array of forums and workshops throughout Sun ?n Fun week, touching on all aspects of recreational aviation. Representatives of the EAA Aeromedical Advisory Council, the EAA Legal Advisory Council, the EAA Homebuilt Aircraft Council, and the EAA Aircraft Insurance Plan will also hold useful forums.

In addition, an EAA Young Eagles workshop and forum will be featured Thursday, April 19, in Tent #4.

A full forum schedule is available at the Sun ?n Fun website.

New Forum Seeks Out Would-Be Pilots

Staff and volunteers from the National Association of Flight Instructors and EAA will conduct a special aviation forum in tent #3 at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, and they don?t want any pilots to show up. ?Don?t Put It Off?Learn to Fly Now? was designed expressly for people with unrealized dreams of flight, those who?ve talked about learning to fly ?someday? but for whatever reason, have yet to make that leap. The aim is to provide would-be pilots the information to push them to that next level.

Special Appearances by Paul Poberezny

EAA Founder and Chairman Paul Poberezny will appear with Kermit Weeks at the Florida Air Museum Pavilion for a special evening program on Tuesday evening, April 17. Paul will describe the early days of the EAA and what was involved in bringing a dream to life.

Paul will also give a presentation, ?Aviation and People,? at 1:15 p.m. Friday, April 20, in the museum.

We?re looking forward to seeing you in Lakeland next week! For more details on Sun ?n Fun?s planned activities, visit the Sun 'N Fun Website.
