End Of An Era For Fisher Flying Products
May 3, 2007 — "There's a time for every purpose under heaven," so the1960s song by the Byrds goes, and Gene and Darlene Jackson-Hanson have decided it's time for them to leave the world of kit building behind. In a conversation with EAA Sport Pilot editor Mary Jones earlier this week, Gene made it official that Fisher Flying Products is discontinuing kit production, but said they will continue to provide replacement parts to the estimated 3,500 Fisher kit owners as well as blueprints for the 15 aircraft for which the company sold kits.
"We've decided it's time to hang it up as kit suppliers," he said. "It's been a great adventure since we started in this business in 1984, but it's time to move on to the next phase in our lives. We've had the pleasure to meet many wonderful people throughout the years, and we're planning to stop by EAA AirVenture Oshkosh this summer to say hi to those folks, but it's time to move on."
Gene indicated that the 15 Fisher designs, some originated by Mike Fisher and others by the Hansons, are "on the market." "If someone is interested in continuing with these designs, we'd love to talk with them," he indicated. "We'll sell them all together or in smaller groups ? whatever seems best."
Gene reassured owners that he and Darlene would continue to supply parts for current Fisher owners until someone else takes over the designs. "We're Dakota people, and we take care of folks, so owners don't have to worry about replacement parts. We'll make sure they're available."
