Final Preparations Under Way For Next Week's Texas Fly-In
May 24, 2007 — This time next week aviation enthusiasts from the Lone Star State and beyond will be descending on. Hondo Municipal Airport, Texas, for the 43rd annual Texas Fly-In (Southwest EAA Regional Fly-In), June 1-2. Officials are making final preparations for the rush of aircraft, organizing forums and workshops, Young Eagle flights, flight demonstrations, and other activities.
Gene Kranz, mission director of Apollo 13, is this year's special guest who will also speak at the Saturday evening awards banquet. There will once again be a Fly Mart where buyers and sellers get together on rare (and not so rare) aircraft parts and accessories.
A mini-reunion is also being organized for the members of the Pilot Training Class of 56-O. Thousands of U.S. Air Force pilots earned their wings at Hondo Field when it was a major training base in the 1940s and 1950s. Paul Kalisch, whose class was the last to fly the T-6 Texan trainer, is organizing the gathering. All Hondo pilot training graduates and those who served at the base are encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Kalisch at 303-755-1858, or firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information on the fly-in, visit www.swrfi.com
