Defaced Chapter Building Gets Fresh Coat of Paint

February 7, 2008 — Several EAA Chapter 172 members got together Saturday to repaint the front of their clubhouse that was defaced by vandals on January 28. As we reported last week, the Augusta, Georgia, chapter fell victim to vandalism in the early morning hours, spray-painting vulgarities and firing numerous gunshots that damaged three airplanes housed there. Chapter President Sheila Connell said they have not heard anything from investigators regarding suspects in the case, but they're hoping that a reward offered by the airport owners will persuade someone to come forward. A group of members headed by Chapter Vice President Freeman Newman worked on Saturday, February 2, to paint over the graffiti. The work crew included Freeman's father, Al, and fellow chapter members Everette Parks, Charlie Connell (Sheila's husband), and Dennis and Fay Allen.

"It looks as good as new," Sheila said. "I told Freeman that he's member of the month next month." She added that Jim McBurney has begun work on repairing his Zenith CH-801 project that was damaged by gunfire in the incident.
