EAA, Virginia Festival of Flight Sign Sponsorship Agreement
June 19, 2008 — The Virginia Aviation Council, which operates the Virginia Regional Festival of Flight, reached a sponsorship agreement with EAA just before the event was held late last week. The new working agreement brings higher visibility to the annual event and clearly defines EAA’s role in the Virginia Festival of Flight, which debuted at Suffolk Executive Airport (SFQ) June 14-15. The agreement also underscores the shared missions of the two organizations.
“The Virginia Aviation Council is happy to have EAA as a sponsor because we value what EAA brings to aviation, said Gordon Campbell, council president. “We've worked with EAA for the first 10 years of the fly-in and to be without them for the 11th year would have been difficult.”
Under the agreement, EAA will provide extensive promotion and coverage of the Virginia Festival of Flight and also serves as a major sponsor of aviation educational activities such as forums and workshops during the event, among other considerations.
“This agreement provides an outstanding framework to ensure the future success of the Virginia Aviation Council and its showcase event,” said Adam Smith, EAA’s vice president of membership. “This confirms its organizational independence and highlights EAA’s support for grassroots aviation events throughout the country. We have set the stage for success in our shared missions, which is to promote recreational aviation in all its forms.”
As part of the agreement, the Virginia event will use the EAA Judging Standards in its aircraft awards program. Along with the increased visibility and promotion of the festival, EAA will continue to have a major presence at the event to provide member services, host forums, and encourage its members to serve as volunteers.
The Virginia Regional Festival of Flight is owned and operated by the Virginia Aviation Council, an organization that is independent of EAA. EAA does not own or control any part of the event or organizing body.
