Copperstate Regional Fly-In in Arizona This Week
October 20, 2008 — Organizers are busy preparing for the 36th annual Copperstate Regional Fly-In is this week, October 23-26, at Casa Grande Municipal Airport (CGZ). More than 60 exhibitors are scheduled to appear, along with a full slate of forums and workshops, aircraft judging, “Showcase” flights, a Fly Mart, kid’s activities, and more.
EAA’s Ron Wagner, manager of filed operations, will be on hand to present several forums on topics such as Affordable Flying and Sport Pilot/Light-Sport Aircraft. Wagner will also occasionally be on Copperstate’s “Front Porch,” where builder “newbies” and “wannabes” can go to ask questions in a relaxed, informal setting.
The fly-in will feature warbirds, homebuilts, custom aircraft, rotorcraft, antiques, and classics. Visit www.copperstate.org for a frequently updated exhibitors list, as well as everything else you need to know about this year's event. CGZ is ideally located midway between Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, just a few miles west of Interstate 10.
Copperstate Features Fuelventure Competition
At Copperstate this year, a fuel efficiency competition, “Fuelventure,” will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 25-26. Bruce Vinnola, EAA 419503, is organizing this and hopefully other similar events during the flying season at other major fly-ins. The purpose: to motivate continuous improvements in aviation efficiency through competition.
Fuelventure at Copperstate is open to the first 30 entrants, which will be divided into three weight categories - 500 kilograms gross weight or less; 501 to 750 kilograms gross weight; and 751 to 1000 kilograms gross weight.
