Lynne Osmus Named Acting FAA Administrator
January 7, 2009 — On January 6, the White House announced the appointment of Lynne A. Osmus as acting FAA Administrator, effective January 16. She will replace current Acting Administrator Bobby Sturgell on an interim basis until the incoming administration appoints a new administrator, according to Diane Blair of the FAA Public Affairs office.
Osmus currently serves as FAA Assistant Administrator for Security and Hazardous Materials and has been with the FAA since 1979, primarily in the field of aviation security. She was appointed to be the Deputy Associate Administrator of FAA's Civil Aviation Security Program just three months prior to 9/11 and then led the FAA’s transition of the security programs to the TSA.
Osmus was designated as the “transition executive” for the Obama Transition team and worked with former FAA Administrator Jane Garvey
“With the current economic and security issues being faced by aviation, it’s important that the Obama administration act as soon as possible in naming a permanent administrator,” said EAA President Tom Poberezny.
