Mike Goulian Wins Budpest Red Bull Race
September 10, 2009 — Air show performer Mike Goulian is having a great summer. Following a tremendous performances at EAA AirVenture, Goulian and his Team #99 headed to Budapest, Hungary to continue competition in the Red Bull racing series. Under beautiful blue skies and in front of more than 600,000 spectators along the banks of the river Danube, consistent clean runs through the twisting track proved to be the key to Goulian, flying his Edge 540, winning his first Red Bull Race.
"It feels amazing," Goulian said after clocking a winning time of 1:12.51 on the 6.6km course on a scorching hot day with temperatures over 30 degrees. It was his first career victory and moved him up to 8th place in the overall championship with 18 points. "It's been so hard to get the right machine, to get the engine working the right way. After four years of hard work this is amazing. I knew we had an airplane that could do it. It's a great win." (Watch race highlights)
Earlier this summer at AirVenture Goulian received the 2009 Bill Barber Award for showmanship. This weekend Goulian goes for his next win as the Red Bull Series moves to Porto, Portugal.
